This is a weekly update for my Maya camera rig creation project. If you want to learn more about the rigs I have made you can see the whole project here. All rigs are available to be download and are free to use.
During this week, I completed two more camera rigs, the crane/jib rig and tripod rig. I was originally going to create more rigs during the week, however, the crane rig ended up taking a lot more time to make than I was expecting.
This rig ended up taking almost the full week to create from start to finish. This is because the rig had a crane and a tripod. So by the time I completed this rig I had almost completed the tripod rig as well.
To get the crane and tripod to work I had to use a lot of joints to get the different pieces of the rig to move correctly when being rotated. This ended up taking a lot of time because there was a significant amount of trial and error in finding the best way to get both elements to work.
This rig was mostly completed during the process of making the crane/jib rig. However, I still needed to create a new base and controls for the camera to simply be held on top of the tripod.
The top piece of the tripod rig did not take as much time as the rest of the rig did since it was mostly just modeling. After the new geometry was created, I added the two pink controls that allow the camera to rotate.
